1985 Mazda RX-7 Headlight Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and reinstall a headlight motor on 1985 Mazda RX-7?
A: To remove the headlight, firstly remove the headlight lid that is fastened with four screws; note the positions of these screws to fit back. Secondly, unscrew the spring close to the top of the headlight mounting ring and remove the mounting ring of the adjusting mechanism. With a screwdriver, remove the spring connecting the body with the headlight ball pivot, and the link with the hinge assembly found underneath the headlight assembly. Take out the wires out of the clips, and place them aside, then take out the hinge assembly by removal of the hinge mounting nut in the back of the mounting ring assembly. To re-install, be sure to place the assembly where it was and screw it with the lock nut, and then place the wiring back into the clips. Attach the connection to the hinge assembly until one hears an audible click, and spread a small amount of multi-purpose grease over the pivot. Apply the spring back to the hinge on the body mounting point, mounting ring, and attach the spring at the top of the mounting ring. Lastly, fit the headlight lid with the four screws and align it to the marks that have been made, re-fit the headlight, fit the battery and ensure the mechanism works as intended, moving the direction of the headlight and lid accordingly.
