1992 Mazda 626 Timing Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the timing cover on 1992 Mazda 626?
A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Loosen the accessory drivebelt adjuster bolt and move the belt out of the way. Remove all of the accessible timing belt cover bolts. Use the drivebelt adjuster bolt to move the adjustment pulley down and then push the adjuster out of the way for access to the remaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts and lift the cover from the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal, and adjust the drivebelt tension. For the lower cover, remove the top retaining bolt, which is accessible from in the engine compartment. Raise the front of the vehicle, support it on jackstands, and remove the right front wheel and splash panel. Remove the two remaining bolts and lift the cover off the engine, with installation being the reverse of removal.
