2008 Mazda Tribute Brake Pad Set Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace a rear Brake Pad Set on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: Loose the lug nuts of the wheels, elevate the vehicle, and hold the vehicle firmly on jackstands with the other end of the wheels blocked. To install the 2008 and older models, push the piston back into the bore with a C-clamp so that there is room to install the new brake pads, without overflowing the fluid in the master cylinder; siphon the fluid out as necessary. Caution is also recommended on the models as late as 2013 that have screw-type parking brake actuators, because a C-clamp should not be applied. In case of work on a model of 2017, it is necessary to switch off the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) beforehand and on reconnecting the calipers. To disassemble, wash the brakes with brake cleaner, take off the caliper spring, dust caps and unscrew the caliper mounting bolts before disassembly. Unlock the caliper off the disc and hold it with wire so that it does not hang by the hose then take the pads off the caliper mounting bracket and remember the inner pad contains the anti-rattle spring. In more recent models (2013 and later), a caliper piston retracting tool is used to ensure that the cutouts are in the piston face are perpendicular to the holes in the mounting bolts, and that the tab is aligned with the inner brake pad. Install the pads in the mounting bracket, slide the caliper back in, apply a coat of high-temperature brake grease to a light layer on the sliding surface of the mounting bolts of the caliper, connect the mounting bolts to the required level of torque, and fit the dust caps and caliper spring back in place. When the job is done, press the brake pedal hard several times so as to contact the pads with the disc, check the level of the brakes fluid, and replace it as necessary, and make sure that the brakes are functioning properly before resuming normal service with the vehicle.
