2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How should the starter/solenoid assembly be replaced if it fails on 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata?
A: The starter/solenoid assembly is not repairable with individual components; failure of which requires replacement with a new or re-assembled unit. Start by removing the cable of the negative terminal on the battery and safely place the car on jackstands. To remove the battery cable off the solenoid, remove the starter bracket off the starter, and disconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid, and then remove the nut. The second step involves removing the starter mounting bolts and starter with the reverse being the addition of the starter. To remove the inner fender liner and left front wheel, first take off the inner fender liner of the models since 2006 and beyond. Next, unscrew the weatherproof plastic cover to free the connector of the battery cable on B + stud and the connector of the starter cable on its terminal. Take out the nut on the starter mounting stud and the starter mounting bolt to be installed back in place. Lastly, take out the starter using the left wheel well with the installation being the opposite of the latter.
