Mazda 3 Transmission Oil Cooler

Mazda 3 Transmission Oil Cooler assists in controlling the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid, which prevents the gearbox damage due to heat. In operation, the transmission fluid picks up the heat of internal parts, and passes through special lines to the cooler where the energy is removed and the fluid is maintained at a desirable temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the operating temperature of a smooth-shifting transmission and long-lived component. In many cars this cooling process is done in a part of the engine radiator, but others use a separate liquid to air heat exchanger that is located behind the front grille to provide better airflow. The cooler is a cooler that uses tubes or plates that are connected to thin fins; fluid is channeled through the cooler and the heat is conducted into the fins where air disperses it. This design protects the transmission against excessive loads like towing, steep inclines, hot weather or stop and go traffic which otherwise causes the temperatures to surpass 240 degrees causing varnish, seal hardening, clutch slipping, and eventual failure. This thermal control is an advantage of the Mazda 3 as its automatic transmission is dependent on a stable hydraulic pressure and clean fluid chemistry. A well-operating Transmission Oil Cooler will eliminate the breakdown of fluids and deposits that may block passages and impair operations. Since the efficiency of heat exchange can be decreased by leaks, corrosion, or bent fins, periodical inspection of damaged lines or blocked fins can ensure safe temperatures. Mazda cooling strategy focuses on maintaining the life of transmission, and the Transmission Oil Cooler is one of the main protective measures of the Mazda 3 in the case of reliable everyday driving.

Mazda 3 Transmission Oil Cooler Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to remove and install the Transmission Oil Cooler on Mazda 3?
    A:
Lift the front of the car and place it on jackstands and take off the wheels. Further, take off the bottom splash shields. Put a drain pan under the transaxle cooler, clamp the transaxle fluid and coolant hoses so that they do not drain, and take out the mounting clamps. The next step is to rip off the cooler mounting bolts and the cooler. Removal is the opposite of installation, and the transaxle and coolant levels should be checked after it.
