The Mazda 6 Alternator is the on-board power plant of the car that transforms the rotation of the engine into a constant flow of electricity that lights the lights, charges the gadgets, and fills the battery. This Alternator is housed in a rugged two-piece aluminum shell with a stationary stator and a rotor mounted on a shaft with a front pulley and a fan moving cool air over internal components as the belt rotates. As the magnetic field of the rotor spins through the stator windings, it induces alternating current that, as it exits the windings by sweeping past the rectifier diodes, produces only battery-friendly direct current for the electrical network. A brush set supplies the rotor with field current, and the output is adjusted to prevent undercharging and overcharging. Previous Mazda models either mounted a box outside, or had an internal regulator attached to the rear housing, but current Mazda models leave the task of voltage regulation to the powertrain control module, and the computer can adjust amperage to suit the new parts without additional equipment. The fundamental mechanical design has always been the same with this electronic development, in that direct-fit replacements fit into the same brackets and follow the original path taken by the drive belt. The signs of a Mazda unit that is not working are dim headlights, occasional stalling, or a battery that is constantly being depleted, and, thus, replacing your Alternator before these signs become too serious will ensure your second-generation 6 is ready to take any trip.

- Q: How to remove and replace the alternator on Mazda 6?A:Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel and splash shield screws and pushpins, then remove the splash shield. Take off upper engine shield by pulling outwards at each side while lifting it free from its center mounting posts within. Remove serpentine belt. For 2.3L four-cylinder models, remove air duct support bracket that is above alternator and bolts holding duct in place so pull up air intake tube as well as bracket for top part with a wrench or socket if necessary. Detach alternator B+terminal nut & elec connecter once freed of electrical connections. Then unbolt fastener for mounting alternator and heat shield complete (assembly). Separate heat shield from generator after unbolting them from each other; meanwhile take off brackets that hold duct to lower front part of generator on 2.5L four-cylinders only.Remove this bracket when you work around here: do not touch if you do not want to break up your A/C line but keep it away without disconnecting from alternator otherwise. Detach alternator B+terminal nut & elec connecter once freed of electrical connections.In order to remove take out these 3 bolts securing generator inside engine bay with their heads located between a/c lines - get rid first before trying force entire thing out through small space where radiator's fins may be damaged during removal process.Fitting time use same old one like before installing into another unit like rebuilding process as well which could look different after fixing it or rejoining its broken parts such that new/rebuilt one still has an original pulley installed; others don't have any.Thus finding a store selling new/rebuilt ones is crucial when purchasing them because majority come without any pulleys so they require changing by customer himself; otherwise ask about the swap policy before buying from that place. Therefore, in this case, if your local auto parts shop refuses doing it free of charge on behalf of you, go ahead buy some tool removing these pulleys and perform it personally.Done in reverse order as before tightening bolts attaching generator since they must be firmly secured at all times.Tighten the alternator mounting bolts securely. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and check the charging voltage to verify that the alternator is operating correctly.
