Mazda 626 Radiator

The Mazda 626 Radiator ensures that the engine is always kept cool by acting as a rapid-response heat exchanger that transfers the surplus heat in the coolant to the moving air. It is mounted behind the grille, with its fin and tube core receiving the hot fluid via an inlet tank, then dispersing it through narrow aluminum channels, and the fins dissipate the heat to the airflow created by the forward movement of the vehicle and the fan, recycling the chilled liquid through an outlet tank. Lightweight aluminum cores with plastic side tanks were applied on typical units on the 626 line, which were designed to allow heat to transfer quickly and to be lighter than the cores applied in earlier cars, which could be fitted with heavier copper or brass cores that would add weight but offer easier repair, which could be done with a solder pad when pinhole leaks occurred. Nevertheless, they all have a similar simple design, with the key differences being weight, corrosion, and the method of repair, no matter what material is applied. Since the system is based on the principle of large surface area, any obstruction in the tubes or bent fins will reduce performance, and the highly frequent failure is a leak. A clean Radiator will prevent the Mazda from overheating and costly breakages, and frequent coolant cleaning will ensure the Mazda cooling passages are clean. Small cracks can then be fixed by brazing, soldering, or welding; however, when the damage or internal deposits become large, replacement of the entire Radiator is the only way to restore cooling efficiency and prevent overheating of the Mazda engine.

Mazda 626 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to properly remove and install a radiator on Mazda 626?
    A:
To access the radiator empty it, and to get to the radiator, take off the air cleaner intake, disconnect the ignition coil wire, and push it aside. Disconnect the fan motor, radiator thermo switch connectors, remove radiator hoses and disconnect the coolant recovery hose. Unscrew the radiator, attaching bolts, and clamps and pull out the radiator. In the case of automatic transaxle, lift up the radiator high enough to reach the cooler lines, disconnect and plug them, then take the radiator out of the engine compartment. Look closely at the radiator to check the radiator areas of leakage and damage and have the radiator repair shop carry out the required repairs. When you remove the radiator, you should brush off the contents of the radiator of insects and leaves and check on the condition of the hoses and clamps and remove or repair them as needed. The radiator may be flushed and the radiator cap ought to be changed to a similar rating or tested one in case it is of a relatively new type. In case of installation of a new radiator, remove the fitting of the old radiator and fix the radiator with the mounts so that it fits in the mounts. Once it has been installed, fill the radiator with the correct coolant mixture and then start the engine and confirm there are no leaks.
