Buy a new connecting hose which connects between the pump outlet and the top of the pump/gauge assembly and may want to change the in-tank filter now. Prior to the process of fuel pump removal, de-pressurize the fuel system to avoid personal injury and fire hazard. The first step involves disconnection of the negative battery cable, then rising of the rear floor mat to take off the fuel pump cover. Unscrew the fuel pump switch connector and record the hook up points of the fuel hoses and then disconnect and connect them. Take out pump/gauge unit assembly and gasket, changing the gasket when it is worn. To remove the pump, first loosen the screw at the clamp that attaches the pump then, remove the hose that joins the outflow of the pump to the assembly and remove the pump. To install, simply put the pump into the mounting bracket, and attach the fuel outlet hose, and clamp it in place. Place the pump and then screw in the retaining screw and screw the pump/gauge assembly back in place. Connect the fuel inlet and outlet lines, and make sure that they are tight and firm and connect the fuel pump switch electrical connector. Lastly, install the fuel pump cover, install the rear floor mat, and reattach the negative battery cable. To test, loosen the fuel filler cap, connect a jumper wire to the yellow test connector, turn the ignition switch ON and listen to the sound of the fuel pump running. In case there is no sound, ensure that the voltage at the fuel pump connector is checked; the normal voltage is about 12 volts DC. In case the voltage is normal and the pump fails to start, change the pump. In the case of a volume test, open the fuel system pressure, take off the fuel return hose and place an approved gasoline container close by. Connect a jumper cable to the yellow test connector, insert the fuel hose into the container and set the ignition switch ON 10 seconds. Check the amount of the collected fuel, and it should be about 190-200CC within 10 seconds; otherwise, examine the fuel filter and fuel line. Take out the jumper wire and switch off the ignition switch.
