To have the greatest effectiveness and longest life of the elements, ensure that the windshield and wiper blades are clean, dirt, tree sap and tar on the road may lead to streaking, smearing, and wear on the blade. Clean the windshield at least once a month using a commercial glass cleaner and wipe with a wet rag to clean the windshield rubber blades. Do not operate wipers manually on top of the windshield because it may break the motor and the drive mechanism. To check or change the wiper blade elements, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, the wiper switch to LOW speed then turn the ignition switch to ACC, then turn the ignition switch to OFF when the blades are vertical. Check the wiper blade parts to see the cracks, breaks, or tears and replace it immediately when needed, the replacement time will depend on the usage, usually being not more than one year, since it will be damaged by ozone. In case the wiper pattern is smeared or streaked, or the blade chatters, change the elements, usually in pairs. In case of using aftermarket blades, it is important to remember that they might need refills of different types as compared to the original equipment. When changing refills, follow the instruction of the part manufacturer so that all the frame jaws are engaged and locked, because the metal blade holder can scratch the glass during the usage.
