The pistons have three rings, two of the compression rings and one oil ring, comprised of two rails and expander. In the installation of new rings, one should check the ring gap and side clearance. All ring and rail gaps must be measured with the ring or rail in the bottom area of the ring travel in bore squarely placed. Side clearance should be checked as well, by placing a feeler gauge between the ring and its upper land in the corresponding piston groove, and this should be carried out when the piston grooves are clean. When inspecting the clearance of the oil rings, oil rings are to be fitted on the piston. Service ring specifications, elaborate installation instructions, etc. will be found in the instructions enclosed with the parts package.
