Mazda B2200 Power Steering Pump

The Mazda B2200 Power Steering Pump reduces the effort required in turning the wheel by pumping pressurized fluid into the steering gear each time the driver turns the wheel. In Mazda pickups it is driven off the crankshaft to convert engine rotation into hydraulic force, which the control valve then directs to either side of a piston inside the cylinder to ensure that assist is available in the same direction as the wheel input, and the truck turns with relative ease at parking speed, with a mechanical connection to ensure steering in case of loss of pressure.     How to remove and install the power steering pump on Mazda B2200?

    In order to install and remove power steering pump on different models, one should start by lifting and using jackstands to support the front part. In the case of the B2200, one has to loosen the idler pulley bolt, take away the drive belt, and the pump pulley nut and then a puller is used to cut off the pulley. Disassemble the pump by disconnection of the return hose and pressure hose making sure to use back-up wrench, support the pump and remove the mounting bolts. To install, place the pump, attach the hoses, fit the drive pulley and belt and regulate the tension as required watching the torque values indicated. The B260Q is no different as it also involves removal of pump adjusting bolt and drive belt, and hoses and the pump. Once the new pump is in place, hoses are connected, drive belt installed and the tension adjusted to meet specifications of correct torque. In case of the MPV that has a 6-cylinder engine, loosen the idler pulley locknut, disconnect the drive belt and pump pulley, disconnect the pressure switch wiring and disconnect the pressure line and then remove the pump. In the re-installing, the hose connections, the drive pulley installation and the belt will be installed and the tension will be adjusted to the torque requirements.
