How to remove and install the radio and Car Speakers on Mazda MX-5 Miata?

For models made in 2005 and earlier, disconnect the negative cable at the battery to begin. On 1995 or older models, take out the console center panel and take out the 4 screws holding the radio. To disengage the radio for models 1996 and later, pry off the service cover at each end of the radio. Afterward, insert the special removal tools into the mounting holes. To remove the radio, pull it out far enough to disconnect the electrical connector and antenna lead; installation is the reverse of removal. For speakers, again disconnect the negative cable at the battery. To remove door speakers, first remove the front door trim panel. Then remove the speaker retaining screws/nuts, unplug the electrical connector, and remove the speaker. Installation is the reverse. To remove the headrest speakers on some models, you must first remove the seat and seatback portion of the seat cover. Then take off the speaker grille, remove the speaker retaining screws/nuts and unplug the electrical connector. Remove the speaker and installation is the reverse of removal. For 2006 and newer models, you will remove the center panel unit. Then, you will remove four radio mounting screws. Now you will pull the radio from its mounting bracket. The installation is the reverse of removal. To replace door tweeters which is behind the door trim panel, take out the door trim panel and disconnect the tweeter electrical connector, remove the tweeter mounting screws and take the tweeter out. Installation is the opposite as removal. To get access to your car door speakers, you will first remove the door trim panel. Then you will disconnect the electrical connector attached to your speaker. Once that is done, you will take out your speaker mounting screws and remove your speaker. For installation, just do everything in reverse order.
