In order to work on the coolant reservoir of 2006 or beyond, drain the cooling system, remove the coolant hoses, unscrew the mounting bolts, and pull the reservoir out, inspecting it in the event of cracks and emptying the coolant into a container. In older models (2005 and before), disconnection of the negative battery cable, emptying engine coolant, taking off the cooling fans, disconnection of the reservoir hose into the filler neck, and loosening and detaching the upper and lower radiator hose is necessary, and in the case of an automatic transmission, disconnection of the oil cooler hose to the radiator is required with a drip pan to collect the transmission fluid. Disassemble the radiator mounting bolts, remember the configurations of the bolts by different model years and lift out the radiator carefully of dripping fluid and sharp fins. In the case of 2006 and later models, looseness, disconnect the cable with the negative battery terminal, raise the car on jackstands, clean out the engine coolant, and then withdraw the battery, battery tray, battery cooling duct, air filter housing, Powertrain Control Module and its cooling duct, coolant reservoir, and ATF cooler hose (where applicable). Disassemble: Unplug the electrical connector that connects to the cooling fan motor, unscrew the hose clamps to remove the upper and lower radiator hose, take off the power steering cooler line and air conditioning condenser without removing the hose and then take out the upper and bottom radiator insulator mounting bracket. The radiator and cooling fan shroud is then detachable as one component and the cooling fan shroud and motor as another component is removed off the radiator. By having the radiator out, check it to confirm that there are no leaks or damages and that it is not blocked internally and in case of repairs, seek the advice of a professional. The radiator should be cleaned with the compressed air and delicate brush without bending the cooling fins, and installation is the opposite of removal and should be properly positioned and the mounting bolts put in place to fit the fan shroud and airtaking duct. Add the right type of antifreeze and water mixture into the cooling system, then the engine should be started to verify any leakage, then the engine should be left to cool to the normal operation temperature and the coolant level should be checked and new antifreeze added accordingly and the same case should be done with the automatic transmission fluid, which may be specified in the models with automatic transmission.
