When the accelerator cable or linkage is not working effectively then the carburetor will not work at its best possible performance and this will noticeably show itself in a lack of power when the accelerator is fully depressed. When troubleshooting, the first thing is to take out the air cleaner assembly and with the accelerator pedal all the way down, ensure that the throttle valves of the carburetor are wide open and that they are in their stand-up position. Make sure that there is no cable binding, and make sure that throttle valves completely close after releasing the pedal. In case of the need to adjust the accelerator cable, the distance between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal needs to be measured; the former should be some 1.8 inches (44 mm) lower than the latter, and can be adjusted by turning the lock nut at the top of the pedal linkage. Also, verify the free movement of the cable at the carburetor, that must be 1 to 3 mm in front of operation of throttle bores otherwise tighten the lock nut at the cable connecting bracket next to the carburetor. When the throttle valves fail to fully open when the pedal is depressed with these checks, then adjust the stopper bolt at the front of the accelerator connection.
