1989 Mazda 929 Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to test the Throttle Position Sensor resistance and adjust the idle switch on 1989 Mazda 929?
A: Unscrew the throttle sensor connector, and put an ohmmeter across the A and D connection making sure the resist is 3.5-6.5 ohms. Then put ohmmeter on the B and D, respectively, and open and close throttle valve by hand, making measurements of the resistance; this must be near 1k ohms when throttle is closed and near 3.5-6.5k ohms when throttle is open. When the readings of resistance are out of range, ensure the throttle sensor idle switch adjustment with a set of flat blade feeler gauge. Connect ohmmeter at C and D terminals and look continuity with feeler gauge in between throttle stopper screw and throttle valve lever; with feeler gauge of 0.02 in. (0.5mm) continuity is expected and with feeler gauge of 0.03 in. (0.7mm) there is no continuity. In case the switch has not been properly adjusted, loosen the screws of the throttle sensor retaining to position the sensor until the continuity readings of the sensor are within the specifications, and place the screws with white paint to hold the setting.
