1990 Mazda 323 Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace Control Arm on 1990 Mazda 323?
A: These two parallel arms attached to the rear cross member are the lateral suspension arms, each of which has two arms related to the rear wheel. The first step is to loosen the lug nut at the rear of the car, get the rear elevated and firmly held up on jackstands. Cover front wheels and take away back one. Place a floor jack to support the rear wheel carrier, label the cam plate settings of the suspension arm to use on correct repositioning, and take off the crossmember access covers in case of working on a vehicle model 1995 or later. In the case that it has ABS, disconnect the speed sensor of the hub with the bolt. The second step is to take off the nut, washer and the bolt on the inboard side of the suspension arm at the suspension crossmember, and then on the outboard side at the rear spindle. Gently bring off the lateral suspension arms making sure not to loosen the lock nuts or rotate the adjuster on 1990-1994 models as this influences the toe of the rear wheels. To install, undo the steps taken out, bearing in mind that the plate with cam should be installed with the notch facing in the same direction as the adjusting cam bolt and in line with the marks made previously. On top of a floor jack, lift the spindle to set it to normal ride height and install all fasteners to the correct torque. In case the rear lateral suspension arm was changed, the toe of the rear wheel should be adjusted by an alignment shop as soon as possible. Lastly, mount the wheel and lug nuts, bring the vehicle down to the ground and fit the wheel lug nuts to the required torque and then check the wheel alignment at a dealer service department or an alignment shop.
