You can replace the outer seal yourself, but special tools are required to replace the bearings and the inner seal inside the axle tube. If the inner seal is leaking or either bearing is faulty, take the assembly to a dealer service department or another properly equipped shop for replacement. Begin by loosening the left front wheel lug nuts, raising the front of the vehicle, and securely placing it on jackstands before removing the wheel. Next, disconnect the left tie-rod end from the steering knuckle and the left control arm from the steering knuckle. Remove the skid plate and then take out the left driveaxle assembly. Detach the front axle shift motor from the axle tube, unbolt the axle tube from the frame and differential, and remove it. If the outer seal is leaking, use a large screwdriver or seal removal tool to take it out, then install the new seal with a seal driver, a large section of pipe, or a large socket that has an outside diameter slightly smaller than that of the new seal. Finally, installation follows the reverse order of removal.
