To detach the rear axle assembly, one needs to unscrew the cable of the negative battery terminal. Loose lug nut of the rear wheels, without taking them off, stuff the front wheels, lift up the back of the enclosure, and place it safely on jackstands, and then take off the rear wheels. Unscrew the
Driveshaft of the
Differential, the ends of the parking brake cables of the axle assembly spring clips, and remove the cable brackets of the lower suspension arms. Unplug the electrical connector of the rear wheel ABS on the differential carrier, and disconnect the height sensor connection on the Automatic Load Leveling system on the rear axle assembly, along with the removal of the nut and the connection. Unscrew the flexible brake hose at the top of the rear axle housing at the point where it joins the metal brake line. Install a floor jack beneath the differential and lift a rear axle assembly to a small degree, and then detach the lower end of Panhard rod, the stabilizer bar, and the lower end of shock absorbers to the rear axle assembly. Slowly lower the rear axle assembly until the coil springs have been fully extended and then remove the springs and screw the upper and lower suspension arms off of the rear axle assembly taking care not to drop the axle over the edge of the floor jack pad. Turn the axle assembly to the floor jack out of the base of the vehicle. In case of changing the rear axle house, then withdraw brakes, metal brake lines, axle-shafts and differential assembly out of the house and attach them to the new house. Installation requires lifting the rear axle assembly into place and fitting the upper and lower suspension arm and leave the nuts and bolts unattached completely. Install the coil springs, position the axle assembly in a position that approximates normal ride height, and finally attach the upper and lower suspension arm nuts and bolts to a given torque. Before connecting the upper section of the shock absorber to the rear axle assembly, attach the lower portion and then screw the bolts tight and afterward connect the stabilizer bar to the axle assembly. Install the driveshaft to the differential flange and screw in the bolts up to the desired torque. Install the flexible brake hose by attaching it to the metal brake line at the bracket on the top of the axle housing, connect the electrical connector of the rear wheel ABS and fit the link rod of the Automatic Load Leveling system. And, lastly, connect the parking brake cable spring straps to the axle assembly, the cable brackets connectors to the lower suspension arms, bleed brakes, attach wheels, hand tighten lug nut, lower, and mount the wheel lug nut to recommended torque.
