1998 Mazda Millenia Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Brake Master Cylinder on 1998 Mazda Millenia?
A: The master cylinder must be removed and installed by first disconnecting the negative battery cable and the fluid level sensor connector. Then pull out the brake lines off the master cylinder wrapping them up with a rag and stuffing to avoid drainage. Unscrew the two nuts that hold the master cylinder fixed to the brake booster and the proportioning bypass valve and the bracket. Removal of the master cylinder (with the removal of the O-ring provided the vehicle is fitted with ABS). Installation: To install, the O-ring should be replaced where needed, install the master cylinder and proportioning bypass valve on the mounting studs and install the mounting nuts, screwing them in to the required specified torque ranges depending on the vehicle model. Add clean to the reservoir DOT 3 brake fluid and bleed the master cylinder. Install the brake lines to the master cylinder and replace the brake line washers and fit them and tighten them as per the recommended torque values of the respective models. Then step on the brake pedal to gauge the firmness, it should not be spongy; it could be that there is air in the system and it needs full bleeding. Lastly, reconnect the negative battery cable and fluid level sensor connector and inspect the brakes to confirm that they are functioning as they should and are leak free.
