Q: How to remove and install the upper and lower intake manifold for V6 engine on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: In 2008 and earlier models to remove the upper intake manifold, firstly remove the cable to the negative battery terminal, then remove the air filter housing intake duct, engine access cover and the cruise control cable (where fitted). The connector to throttle position sensor and idle air control valve connector, the EGR valve vacuum hose and pipe, the EGR valve vacuum regulator solenoid connector, the vapor management valve vacuum hose should also be disconnected. Label the vacuum lines and electrical connections where they fit back together, unscrew the power steering pressure sensor, take the transaxle vent hose bracket off, and loosen the bolts to the upper intake manifold before removing and disposing of the gaskets. In 2009 to 2012 models, the first steps are similar, but then all the wiring that interferes, the EVAP canister line, the brake vacuum line, and the PCV tube should be disconnected, all off of the intake manifold. Take away the mounting bolts of the intake manifold and move the manifold out, getting rid of the gaskets. During installation, verify warpage in the event of leaking gasket, install new gaskets without sealant and tighten the fasteners in a series of steps to the required torque. Install everything back in a reverse order, verify the accelerator cable and throttle linkage, reconnect the battery and make sure the Powertrain Control Module learns its idle and fuel trim strategy again. When removing the upper intake manifold, relieve fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery terminal and then remove the lower intake manifold. On 2008 and earlier models, detach the fuel supply line off the fuel rail or on 2009 and 2012 models, remove the fuel rail, disconnect the wiring of the fuel injectors and the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulator. Tighten the bolts of the lower manifold in a slow and steady manner, remove the lower intake manifold, and dispose of the gaskets. Cleanse all gasket material off the spilling surfaces, examine to abrasion, and set up new bottom intake manifold gaskets. Install the lower manifold, making sure that the gaskets are left in place and then tighten the bolts in a slow and uniform manner to the required torque. Installation should be done backward, reattach the battery, and make sure that the Powertrain Control Module relearns its idle and fuel trim strategy.
