Mazda Tribute Intake Manifold

The intake air is directed by the Mazda Tribute Intake Manifold or blended air-fuel charge in a way that all the cylinders get equal, power-building doses of air. In early designs that applied either carburetion or throttle-body injection, the mixture was blended inside the manifold runners, with subsequent multiport and direct-injected designs allowing the Intake Manifold to move mostly clean air as injectors or GDI nozzles sprayed fuel nearer to the chamber, improving throttle response. Being made of aluminum, iron, or even formed from modern plastic composite, the Intake Manifold has to flow smoothly to maintain high velocity, but its two-piece structure with gaskets and bolts must fit tightly or Mazda performance fails due to air escaping to make the mixture lean. In the Mazda SUV, many V-configuration engines have coolant passages in the manifold to fit the thermostat, and temperature and charge sensors, such as ECT and ACT, are applied to provide the computer with fine-tuning information. Also, on more recent Mazda applications, there are variable-length runner systems (so-called VRIS), which are applied to alternate tract length and harness the Helmholtz resonance, increasing torque at lower revolutions and power at higher speeds. The new plastic variable design is lighter than the previous fixed-runner design on the first generation Tribute; incoming air is cooler, and fuel economy is increased, providing Mazda drivers with a livelier feel without sacrificing efficiency. All Intake Manifolds of the Tribute SUV should then consider harmonious movement, accurate dispersion, and close seals to keep the small machine enthusiastic and trustworthy.

Mazda Tribute Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold for 4 cylinder engine on Mazda Tribute?
    A:
In the models of 2008 and prior with engines of 2.0L and 2.3L, start by releasing the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the throttle lever arm by removing the air intake hose, accelerator cable and cruise control cable. Disassemble the fuel rail, pressure regulator and injectors as a unit, plus the breather hose and PCV valve on the intake manifold (2004 models and older) and remove the intake manifold breather hose and PCV valve also. Disattach ignition wires, vacuum lines, PCM harness and CHT sensor connector and remove the alternator and EGR valve. In case of replacement or service of the intake manifold, dismount throttle body otherwise simply unscrew intake manifold support bracket and use of fasteners and then unscrew intake manifold and gasket. Check mating surfaces and check in situation of warpage and resurface or replace as required. Installation requires a new manifold gasket, addition of the bolts in stages starting at the center and then reconnect the battery, thereafter the PCM relearns idle and fuel strategies. In the 2009 and subsequent models that have the 1.5L and 1.6L engines, take off the negative battery terminal, lift the engine cover, lift the vehicle and take off the engine under cover. In the case of 1.5L engines, unscrew the air filter housing, evaporative emissions canister purge valve, and intercooler then unscrew the alternator and throttle body intake pipe. Disconnect electrical connectors to knock sensor, crank case vent tubes and any other interfering connectors. In the case of 2.0L engines, loosen the engine cover, lift the vehicle and unhook the throttle body and then unscrew the FRP and MAP sensor connections, fuel line clip and brake vacuum hose. In the 2.5L engines, the air intake duct should be disconnected, the vehicle should be raised in the air and the pressure in the fuel system reduced and the brake vacuum hose and vapor return line disconnected. Disassemble the intake manifold and its gaskets, replacing gaskets where necessary, and replacing them in the reverse order, tightening all screws to the correct torque value.
