2008 Mazda Tribute Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and reinstall the oil pan for V6 engine on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: In order to take out the oil pan, disconnect the cable on negative battery terminal, and then lift up the vehicle and properly rest on jackstands. Empty the engine oil, re fit the oil drain plug and tighten it to the required torque with a new gasket where necessary. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector/s and remove the oil filter. The second step is to take off crossover and flexible exhaust pipe and converter assembly of the vehicle and then driveplate access cover. Unscrew the bolts holding the oil pan in place, and unscrew the oil pan fasteners and the oil pan itself, and record the position of any stud bolts. Remove the oil screen and pick-up tube assembly, disregarding the oil pan gasket, and removing the fasteners that hold those components in place, and, when necessary, the oil screen and pick-up tube. Wipe the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces completely with brake system cleaner and then make sure that there is no residue. To install, in case of removal; place a new O-ring seal on the oil pick-up tube, install the tube and the screen assembly and tighten the retaining fasteners to the recommended torque. Install a new self-locking nut to fix the pick-up tube support bracket and screw it. Install a new gasket on the oil pan and place in the engine front cover to cylinder block parting line a 1/8-inch bead of RTV sealant. Carefully install the oil pan to prevent dislodging of gasket followed by the installation and manual tightening of pan bolts with any stud bolts properly positioned. Installation of oil pan-to-transaxle bolts, press the oil pan against transaxle and tighten the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts snugly and then gradually and even tighten the oil pan bolts to required torque. Installation After installing all fasteners to the measured torque values, replacing any loosened self-locking nuts, filling the engine with fresh oil, installing a new oil filter, filling the cooling system, starting the engine to verify leakage, and finally reconnecting the battery. Powertain Control Module needs to learn again its idle and fuel trim strategy to achieve the best drive and performance.
