2008 Mazda Tribute Valve Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the valve cover on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: To service models in 2008 and below with a 2.0L and 2.3L engine, firstly, take off the negative battery cable and the air intake duct in the air filter housing. Take out the spark plug wires and ignition coil assemblies when necessary and unplug the accelerator cable and the cruise control actuator cable to the throttle valve. Disconnect the catalytic converter monitor connector, heated oxygen sensor connector and loosen up the support nuts of the wiring harness to locate the wiring harness out of the way. Take out all the ignition coil and ignition coil bracket (where applicable), unscrew the valve cover retaining bolts and remove valve cover discarding old gasket. To install, clean the faces of the cover and cylinder head gasket, fit in a new gasket and make sure that the cover is properly seated as the tightening process is done. Install the cover bolts in a diagonal order, re-hook the spark plug wires or ignition coils, and re-hook the battery and the Powertrain Control Module should relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy. In 2009 and later models detach negative battery terminal and in some models, cowl panel. In the case of 1.5L and 1.6L engines, relieve fuel pressure, take off engine cover, disconnect crankcase vent tube and remove hoses on valve cover. With 2.0L engines, it is to be noted that the procedure involves raising the vehicle, removing the engine cover, and disconnection of different sensors and tubes followed by the unscrewing of the valve cover mounting bolts. With 2.5L engines, you need to take out the ignition coils and disconnect the PCV system vent hose. Installation requires clean up of surfaces during installation, change gaskets, apply RTV sealant at designated places, instal the valve cover and screw the bolts sequentially. Lastly, re-wire the battery and remake sure that the Powertrain Control Module resets its settings.
