Take out the engine cover by removing the mounting fasteners. In 2008 or older models, there is a vent tube on the crankcase and it connects to the front valve cover whose removal is followed by the removal of ignition coils on the valve cover top. Unscrew the wiring harness of the valve cover and position it aside by removing the bolt of the power steering pump hose bracket as well as the engine lifting brackets and position the hose to the side. In 2009 to 2012 models, take out the air intake duct in throttle body, and then take out ignition coils. Unscrew the upper radiator hose off its retention connectors and lay it aside, then unscrew the electrical connector of the VCT and heated O2 sensor, the wiring harnesses, and retention connectors. Relax the valve cover bolts directly and steadily at the same time till they are all loosely packed out, then undo the valve cover fasteners, and pivot the valve cover away off the engine. The old valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals are also to be discarded and new gaskets and seals should be installed during reassembly. Check the sealing areas on the valve cover and cylinder head to see whether they are damaged and clean them with solvent and a shop towel. Change the valve cover gasket, making sure that it is well seated, and change the seals of the spark plug tubes. In 2009 and subsequent models, install the new gasket at the waffle locations and corners, and also, enclosing the holes of the bolts. Install RTV sealant bead, 5/16-inch or less at designated points, insert the valve cover into position and install the valve cover fasteners to the desired torque sequentially. The other set up is in reverse sequence of un-installation. In the case of the rear valve cover, take off the upper intake manifold then the ignition coils on the top of the valve cover. Unhook all the wiring that gets in the way of removing the valve covers and can position the harnesses out of the way. In the older models of 2008 and below, take the capacitor out of the bottom of the alternator and cut off any hoses or ventilation tubes that are in the way. Screw open all the valve cover fasteners progressively until they are all loose, then unscrew them and slowly remove the valve cover off the cylinder head. Old gaskets and seals will have to be discarded and new ones installed during reassembling. Check the surfaces to be sealed and wash. Install a new valve cover gasket making sure that it is in place and apply a bead of RTV sealant where required, 5/16-inch. Gradually screw all the valve cover fasteners to the stipulated torque, then reconnect all the wiring harnesses and bracket, the ignition coils, and upper intake manifold. The other set up is in reverse sequence of un-installation.
