How to remove and install the door lock and ignition lock cylinder on Mazda 3?

To begin, roll the window all the way up and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the door trim panel and the outside handle access panel. Remove the sound pad mounting nut from the stud bolt, then take out the pad and the stud bolt. For 2010 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector to the door handle bracket for the keyless entry antenna. Rotate the rod clip back and disconnect the rod from the outer handle, then pull the handle outwards and remove the cover from the outside handle. To remove the outside door handle, pull it out of the door and to the rear to disengage it from the handle reinforcement inside the door. Inspect the outside door handle seals and replace them if they are cracked, torn, or otherwise deteriorated. The installation process is the reverse of removal. For the inside door handle, pull the locking tab back, slide the shaft up, and detach the handle assembly from the door module. Disconnect the door lock cable from the inside door handle cable, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the door latch, remove the outside door handle lever, carefully pry up the window/door trim from the outside of the door, and remove the window glass. Remove the door speaker by disconnecting all electrical connectors and harnesses, then disconnect the inside door handle and cables. Remove the door module mounting fasteners and take out the module, noting that the power window motor and window regulator are attached to it. Disconnect the harness connector from the latch lock actuator, disconnect the lock rod from the door latch, and remove the door latch mounting screws to guide the latch assembly from the door, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the door lock cylinder on 2009 and earlier models, remove the outside door handle and door latch, rotate the lock cylinder counterclockwise until the tab fits into the notch opening, and pull the key lock cylinder out through the door, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2010 and later models, remove the power window regulator and the outside door handle, take out the access plug from the end of the door and the access hole plug on the face of the door, remove the door lock link bracket mounting nut and bracket, loosen the screw through the access hole, disconnect the key rod clip and rod from the key assembly, disengage the release tab on the inside of the door handle to remove the lock cylinder, and separate the exterior trim cap from the key cylinder using a small screwdriver to disengage the tabs, with installation being the reverse of removal.

When Mazda started using electronics, they installed power locks, which provided the addition of a small electric actuator to the same latch, allowing a dashboard or armrest switch to pass current through a relay or body control module and lock all doors simultaneously.
