Mazda 3 Exhaust Manifold is the initial burnt gas exit point of the engine, directing each cylinder's exhaust gases to the exhaust system and avoiding the impact of heat and fumes in the cabin. Covered over by a gasket to the head, this is a stout component which collects the hot flow, directs it to the catalytic converter and muffler, and prevents reverse stroke intake that would take away power. An Exhaust Manifold connects with a casting that has one exhaust runner to each cylinder, meaning that the four-cylinder design of the car has four narrowed passages which then combine into one outlet. Throughout the history of the Mazda compact, two broad styles have been applied, an older cast iron header focusing on durability, and a more modern tubular steel header extending the runners to reduce pressure and use scavenging to provide livelier throttle action, commonly on the later 3 models. The two versions are similar in terms of the basic job they carry out, but they vary in weight, heat retention and flow efficiency. Due to the nature of the Mazda engine, which depends on a balanced air-fuel mixture, any cracks or distorted flange of the Exhaust Manifold may cause leaks, lean the mixture, and trigger a decrease in acceleration and increased fumes. - Q: How to remove and install an exhaust manifold on Mazda 3?A:The next step to eliminate the exhaust manifold is lifting the vehicle and jackstanding it. When the engine is cool, wet the nuts that clamp the heat-shield together with penetrating oil to loosen rust, and then remove the heat shield, and cover the bolts that connect the exhaust manifold with penetrating oil. Unattach the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifold and remove the old gasket on the flange. Disconnect the electrical connector of oxygen sensor, and take out the sensor of the manifold. The exhaust manifold mounting nuts are then removed, then the old gasket and the manifold. Apply a stud removal tool or 2 nuts screwed against each other to remove the old studs in the Cylinder Head. Check the exhaust manifold, whether there are cracks or damage; in case there are any, change it. Clean the mating surfaces of gasket material by scraping without scratching or gouging the mating surfaces as this may cause exhaust leakage. Check the mating faces with a straightedge and feeler gauge, this should not be excessive. To install, a new exhaust stud needs to be installed into the cylinder head, then the manifold is installed using a new gasket and self-locking nuts and the threads on the studs should be coated with anti-seize compound. Assemble the nuts in stages, starting at the center and out to the desired torque. Lastly, start up the engine and ensure no leaks of exhaust.
