How to adjust the headlights on Mazda 3?

On 2009 and earlier models, the headlight adjustment screws control up-and-down and side-to-side movement, while 2010 and later models have only one adjuster for up-and-down movement. Several methods exist for adjusting the headlights, with the simplest requiring a blank wall 25 feet in front of the vehicle and a level floor. Position masking tape on the wall in relation to the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights. Measure the height of the headlight reference marks from the ground and position a horizontal tape line on the wall at the same height. It may be easier to position the tape on the wall with the vehicle parked only a few inches away. Adjustments should be made with the vehicle sitting level, the gas tank half-full, and no unusually heavy load present. Turn on the low beams and adjust the screw to position the high intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line. It is advisable to have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department at the earliest opportunity.

How to remove and install headlight housings on Mazda 3?

In the case of models that have halogen bulbs, start by taking off the front bumper cover, the upper and lower mounting bolts, and cover. Note on the models of 2010 and later, the headlight housing bolts of three are used with a pin-type retainer on the lower side of the headlight housing. Then remove the head light housing and break the electrical connectors and it is the same way to install as it is to remove. Models that have a High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulb can however be distinguished by a high voltage warning label on the head light housing. This system may also emit high voltages that may be fatal to the individual when shocked and the voltages may persist in the circuit even after the ignition key is removed and the headlight switch is off. A warning given by the manufacturer is that high voltages may be emitted by this system and may still be in the circuit despite the removal of the ignition key and the shutting off of the headlight switch. To be on the safe side, one would recommend that removal of these headlight housings be done by an authorized repair shop.
