- Q: How to relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel pump module on Mazda 6?A:Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the rear seat cushion. Remove the fuel pump access cover screws. Disconnect the electrical connector and the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting from the fuel pump module (Open the quick connect fitting lock, then push the line in and pull the line off of the module). On 2008 and earlier locking cap/ring type models, tap the fuel tank module lock ring counterclockwise with a hammer and brass punch (to avoid sparks). On other 2008 and earlier models, remove the fuel tank module mounting plate fasteners and plate. On 2009 and later models, use special service tool #49 F042001 to unscrew the fuel. Carefully pull the fuel pump module out of the tank. Angle it as necessary to protect the fuel level sensor float arm. Inspect the O-ring and replace it if it shows any sign of deterioration. Installation is the reverse of removal.
