Mazda 626 Ignition Switch

The Mazda 626 Ignition Switch is the switch that opens the gate through which the electrical system of the car awakens and the engine roars to start. Within each model, the Ignition Switch closes circuits instructing the onboard computer to inject fuel and spark while allowing the radio or wipers to operate before the engine spurs. Early Mazda vehicles use a metal key that has to mechanically align tumblers to make contacts only when the appropriate cut is in a position to do so, a system that may be defeated by hotwiring if the steering lock has been defeated. Subsequent Mazda models incorporate an immobiliser in the Ignition Switch, which picks up a transponder chip in the key, cutting off power to the starter if the code is not present. The highly recent 626 models do not use the rotating barrel, replacing it with a push button, and the task carried out is the same, which is to check the key signal, activate the starter motor, and maintain current flow until the engine drops out of gear. Individual Ignition Switches are provided in a model-specific plug-and-play form to allow owners to change it without rewiring, and inside is a layout to support the supply of part power, run power and starter power in an accurate sequence to ensure the protection of delicate electronics. Although these differences occur, the key difference narrows down to how the driver enters the circuit, be it through a metal key or electronic handshake, but the reliable core logic that Mazda developed remains constant.
