Mazda 626 PCV Valve

The Mazda 626 PCV Valve is an outlet that diverts intake gases out of the crankcase and reroutes them, safeguarding the engine and the environment. The valve is opened when the throttle or the throttle body is only slightly open, taking advantage of the intake manifold vacuum to prevent excess air from entering the crankcase and instead allowing larger amounts of gas to flow back into the cylinders to burn cleanly on a second pass. This cycling prevents the presence of corrosive moisture and sludge in the oil, assists in the sealing of the piston rings, and helps the engine, keeping the 4-cylinder or V6 engines applied by many Mazda versions throughout Mazda history running. The PCV Valve is also a flame arrester that prevents intake backfires or turbo pressure from entering the crankcase and protects gaskets and seals. The basic layout was the same over the decades of 626 production and thus, regardless of whether your car is an early carbureted or a later fuel-injected model, there will always be a spring-loaded valve opposite the breather to provide balanced ventilation; style differences are insignificant and are associated rather with thread size or angle of the housing than with capability. The part is self-regulating and has no electronics, so there is no need for any complicated service; instead, the replacement of a sticking valve or a simple check-up is all that is usually necessary to have the system operating smoothly once again with idle and low-emission smoothness in the exhaust. Having a healthy PCV Valve, any Mazda maintains emissions at a lower level and engine life at a higher level, which is one of the easy components to maintain to keep your car running cheerfully.

Mazda 626 PCV Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to check and replace the PCV valve on Mazda 626?
    A:
The PCV valve is found in the cover of the camshaft. When the engine has been idled to normal operating temperature, remove the valve (with hose) at the rubber grommet in the cover of the camshaft. Put your finger on the end of the valve; when the engine speed decreases, it means that the valve is functioning well. However, when the engine speed does not decrease, it means that the valve is not functioning correctly and should be replaced. To change the valve, remove it at the end of the hose, noting its position and direction of installation. When replacing, make sure that it fits your vehicle, model year, and engine size, and compare the old valve and new one to ensure they are the same. Insert the valve into the end of the hose until it is seated, check the rubber grommet to ensure that no damage has occurred, and change the grommet where necessary. Lastly, insert the PCV valve and hose firmly into the PCV.
