To install and uninstall the rear driveshaft on different models, you will have to start by lifting the rear end of the car safely placing it on jackstands. Mark the drive shaft and pinion flanges so that they fit during reassembly. It can be done by loosening the bolts between the driveshaft and the pinion flange and in the case of the 929 model, the center bearing support bracket is unbolted and then the lower part of the driveshaft is lowered and the front part of the driveshaft can be slid out of the transmission. To ensure that there is no leakage of fluid, seal the transmission hole with an appropriate technique. To install it, insert the front part of the drive shaft into the transmission, lift the rear part onto the pinion flange, and make sure that the matchmarks align properly then tighten the flange bolts up to definite values. In the case of RX-7, the driveshaft should be installed at the same location as indicated not to cause vibrations and the tightening of the bolts must be done as indicated by the model. In performing the overhaul of the joint, matchmark the yoke and driveshaft, remove the bearing snaprings and drive out the bearing cups with great care. Check the wear of the spider, measure its diameter and change when needed. Installation Prepare the bearers by stuffing the bearing cups with grease, attaching the rollers and dust seals, and making sure that the U-joint has slight drag and is not binding. Lastly, test the U-joint assembly to operations.
