  This part is commonly called a cylinder head cover by Mazda. The first step to eliminate it is to either remove the air cleaner on carbureted engines, or to loosen the clamps and unscrew the air intake crossover on fuel-injected engines. In the case of turbocharged engines, loosen the clamps on the two ends and pull out the line of the turbocharger. Secondly, unscrew the PCV valve on the rocker arm cover, but it is only required in the case of servicing the right side rocker arm cover in 3.0L engines. Where necessary, remove the choke cable and air bypass valve cable, loosen the retaining bolts and remove the rocker arm cover. Scrape off all old gasket material and sealant and be careful not to drop any debris into the cylinder head. To install, place a new gasket on your rocker arm cover, place RTV sealant on the groove in the cover when installing on the 1.6L engine, and the corners of the cylinder head when installing on the 2.2L engine. Install new seal washers with 2.0L and 3.0L engine bolts and tighten the bolts in a series of steps until slightly tight using the following recommended torque values: 1.6L Engine: 3.6-6.5 ft. lbs. (5-9 Nm) and 2.0L Engine: 2.2-2.9 ft. lbs. (3-4 Nm), and 2.2L Engine: 4.3-5.7 ft. lbs. (6-8 Nm) and 3 When necessary, reconnects the choke cable and air bypass valve cable, attaches the outlet line of the turbocharger when using turbocharged engines, and the PCV valve and the air cleaner or crossovers air intake.
