Mazda 929 Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to remove and install the Neutral Safety Switch on Mazda 929?
    A:
To remove the switch, disconnect the linkage at the gear selector lever first, then unbolt the switch and get it out of the transmission. Now set the new switch on the transmission and secure it with bolts, reconnect the selector lever linkage, and adjust the switch. For GLC model adjustment, make sure the selector lever is in Neutral position. Next, take the manual lever retaining nut off the transmission and pull the lever off the switch. Without completely removing the two bolts that hold the switch, loosen them. Also, remove the screw from the hole at the bottom part of the switch that contains alignment pin. Gradually rotate the switch while inserting a 0.08 in. Insert the pin, which has a diameter of 2mm. When it aligned the pin will freely slide through the internal rotor. Tighten the bolts of the switch, refit the screw of the alignment pin hole, return the manual lever to the switch shaft, and fit the washer and nut. Test the operation of the switch; if does not then replace it. To carry out adjustment procedures on the 626 model, place the transmission selector lever in the Neutral position; and loosen the attaching screws of the Neutral switch. Then, adjust the manual shift lever shaft to the correct Neutral position. Align the identification marks on switch body and sliding plate tightens screws and task verifies the adjustment by engine starting in any gear and only starts, in Park and Neutral. In the 929 and RX-7, move the selector lever to Neutral, lift and support the vehicle, then loosen the inhibitor switch mounting bolts and remove the screw under the switch body. Align the switch housing with the screw hole, then check alignment with a 0.08 in. Pin with a 2mm diameter When aligned, the pin is removed, the switch mounting bolts tightened, and screw installed. Ultimately, check the system to see that it works properly. The car should not start in any setting other than Neutral or Park. Also, the backup lights should come on in Reverse. In case the complication continues, check out the bulbs and wirings or change the inhibitor switch.
