To begin the procedures for removing and installing the combination switch on the GLC, 323, 626, MX-6, and 929, disconnect the negative battery cable. Subsequently, take off the horn cap or ornament, release the nut that attaches the steering wheel, and then take off the steering wheel with the help of a puller. Thereafter, unscrew the steering column upper and lower covers to take them off. Leave the connector of the combination switch disconnected, or if replacing the
Ignition Switch, disconnect the ignition switch and combination switch connectors. Remove the retaining ring from the steering column if not 1983-89 626 Models. Remove the retaining screw and take out the combination switch. To install the new combination switch, first install the retaining screw. If applicable, install the steering column retaining ring. Reconnect the ignition switch/connectors. Install the steering column covers using the retaining screws. With respect to placement of combination switch and covers, straightening of front wheels must be performed for 1988 - 89 626, MX-6 and 929. Combination switch and steering angle sensor marks must be aligned. The final step involves installing the steering wheel and either the horn cap or ornament. After reconnecting the negative battery cable perform a functional check of the combination switch.
