To remove and install the door glass and window regulator, start by lowering the door glass and removing the inner handle cover, door lock knob (if necessary), window regulator handle, and door trim panel. For vehicles with power windows, unfasten the electrical connectors. Carefully peel off the door screen for reuse. For 1978-83 models, remove the six bolts attaching the window regulator to the door, then take out the door glass and window regulator through the large access hole. For 1984-89 models, replace the window regulator handle and position the door glass to remove the installation bolts from the service hole, then remove the door glass and unfasten the window regulator installation bolts before extracting the regulator through the service access hole. Remove the window motor mounting bolts and separate the motor from the regulator. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that if equipped with power windows, the motor leads are connected to a battery to run the regulator down before motor installation, cycling the window several times to confirm proper operation. For the 1979-85 RX-7, remove the regulator handle, inner handle cover, armrest, trim panel, and inner handle assembly, then take out the watershield and the screws attaching the glass and regulator before removing the glass. Extract the regulator through the access hole, taking care with the power window motor to avoid releasing the actuating spring. During installation, adjust the regulator as needed and connect the motor leads to a battery for proper positioning. For the 1986-89 RX-7, remove the sail inner garnish, inner handle cover, door trim, courtesy light connectors, and speaker, then remove the upper stopper and weather strip. Use an extension to remove the door glass attaching bolts and pull the glass upward and out of the guide. Finally, remove the regulator attaching bolts and pull the regulator out through the access hole, ensuring to adjust the regulator during installation and connect the motor leads to a battery if applicable.
