Mazda B2000 Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Brake Master Cylinder on Mazda B2000?
    A:
To take out and install the master cylinder, remove the brake lines attached to the master cylinder and put the ends into a cap. In models 1986-89, disconnect the coupling of the fluid level sensor. Unbolst and remove the master cylinder on the firewall or power booster and to note that 1977-78 models have the remotely mounted reservoir, the lines must be undipped and used to reconnect the lines. Installation is the backward procedure of removal, and mounting nuts should be torqued to 15 ft. lbs. and then the system bled. To overhaul models 1972-84, begin by taking off the master cylinder and emptied the fluid, and removing the reservoir (in models to 1976). Unscrew the reservoir grommets, dust boot, and next pop off the piston to take off the piston stop ring, stop washer, primary piston, and spring. Slacken the secondary piston but leave the secondary piston stop screw in place, force the secondary piston inwards and then open the screwing, and place a guide pin to clean the secondary piston. Take out outlet port fittings, check valves, springs and clean the parts all in clean brake fluid. Check the wear or damage, change the parts of the cylinder suspected to be damaged, and hone the cylinder bore if needed. In case the honing does not finish the inside, remove the cylinder, and test the piston-to-bore clearance, and change the cylinder more than 0.15mm (0.0059 in.). The opposite of disassembly is assembling and all parts are covered with clean brake fluid prior to assembly. In 1986-89 models, detach the reservoir by rocking it, take off the grommets and the screw screwing the piston stopper off the bottom. Unscrew the snap ring and primary piston assembly by pushing down on the piston and then the secondary piston assembly which should be removed with the help of compressed air. Clean in clean brake fluid, check wear or damage, replace suspect parts, as necessary honing the cylinder bore. In case the interior cannot be polished, discard the cylinder, and examine the clearance between the piston and bore, replacing the cylinder in case it is larger than 0.12mm (0.0047 in.).
  • Q: How to check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder on Mazda B2000?
    A:
Monitor the fluid in the brake master cylinder level at indicated period or more frequently because it is situated at the left side rear part of the engine compartment. First park the truck on a flat surface and wipe out all dirt in the part of master cylinder reservoir cover. The top of the master cylinder reservoir should be cautiously removed ensuring not to drip the brake fluid on painted surfaces as it may soon erode the paint. The fluid should be kept a little less than 1/2 in. below the top of the reservoir. In case of requiring brake fluid only a good quality fluid that meets specifications of either DOT-3 or DOT-4 should be used. Add fluid to keep the level correct and screw the top on the master cylinder back on, should it fall off. When the fluid level is regularly low, it can also mean that there are issues in the other parts of the system that should be investigated.
