Mazda B2000 Exhaust Manifold

The Mazda B2000 Exhaust Manifold directs blistering combustion gases from the engine into one outlet, maintaining efficient breathing within the engine and eliminating vicious fumes from the cabin. It is bolted to the side of the inline-four and collects the spent mixture as soon as every exhaust stroke is completed and then forces the flow to the catalytic converter, muffler and tailpipe before it is able to reverse and choke incoming air. Over the years Mazda constructed the component of heavy cast iron, which is durable, with recent Mazda trucks using lighter stainless steel tubing in their construction, which also winds like arms on an octopus, a design that dissipates heat more quickly as well as slightly reduces weight. The four short runners of B2000 engines in most cases combine just a few inches away from the head, a small system that warms up fast and keeps the torque at normal everyday rpm. To improve throttle response, performance-tuned versions expand the runners and time the pulses to allow negative pressure in one cylinder to assist in pulling the succeeding charge out, a mechanism known as scavenging, and without additional complexity. Irrespective of material or shape, a clean Exhaust Manifold gasket closes the joint to prevent leaks that may drain power and allow carbon monoxide to escape into the cab. Since thermal cycling may at some point crack the Exhaust Manifold, Mazda suggests replacing the engine part in time to maintain engine condition and keep occupants safe.

Mazda B2000 Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the exhaust manifold on Mazda B2000?
    A:
To install or remove the exhaust manifold depending on the size of the engine, one has to start by lifting and supporting the truck. In case of 1,586 cc and 2,209cc engines, remove the exhaust pipe off the manifold, remove attaching nuts on the manifold, and remove the manifold. Clean up and rub graphite grease on the mating surface before re-fitting, fit the manifold and tighten the nuts to specification. In the case of 2,555cc engine, take off the negative battery cable, air cleaner assembly and power steering pump belt. Once the vehicle has been raised, disconnect the air injection tube assembly and take away the power steering pump assembly. Take off the heat cowl, exhaust manifold retaining nuts, then clean the surfaces of the gasket. Install a new gasket between the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold and then install the carburetor air heater and sparsely apply sealant to the new exhaust manifold gasket. Install the manifold, heat cowl, air cleaner support bracket, and power steering pump assembly and connect the air injection tube and exhaust pipe back. In the case of the 2,606cc engine, detach the battery ground, empty the cooling system, empty the oil dipstick tube, and maybe the bypass pipe with the coolant. Disconnect the exhaust pipe and take the heat shield off, unbolt and remove the manifold disposing of the old gasket. It is reassembled in the opposite order with a new gasket and tightening the bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
