Mazda B2000 Ignition Switch

Mazda B2000 Ignition Switch is the switch that activates the electrical and engine systems of the pickup so that the driver only has to turn or press it and the truck will start. In the conventional design, the Mazda B2000 Ignition Switch uses a mechanical key to unlock the steering column and to short the starter circuit to the starter solenoid, parts of the fuel delivery, and cabin amenities such as lights or the radio. In subsequent production years, an immobilizer could be added to the same core unit to make the truck crank only when the transponder signal of the key matched, which provided a theft deterrent without modifying the plug-and-play replacement process. Even later versions replace the metal key with a push-button, but the principle remains the same, that the control module has to give permission prior to the starter motor switching on. This Ignition Switch controls the flow of power in phases, initially on the parts, then on the ignition hardware and lastly on the starter to allow the owner to listen to the radio or roll the windows down without needing to start the engine. Each assembly is specifically developed to fit Mazda wiring harnesses, so a broken one can normally be detached and replaced by a new one easily without the complex reprogramming applied to restore a B2000 to normal starting operation. The outcome is a reliable part that is still serviceable and prevents Mazda cars from unauthorized starts.

Mazda B2000 Ignition Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on Mazda B2000?
    A:
In order to dislodge and replace the ignition switch in between the year 1972 and 1981, you first have to disconnect the battery ground cable. Next, make sure that you reach under the instrument panel and pull the connector of the wire out of the back of the switch. Grasping the switch body behind the instrument panel, loosen the black retaining nut, then turn counterclockwise then take the switch out of the back of the instrument panel. Install the new switch in the instrument panel, grasp it at the back of it and attach the retaining nut by turning clockwise. Secondly, insert the multiple connector into the rear of switch and re-insert battery ground cable in order to ensure that the switch works. In case of 1982-1989 models, the ignition switches and ignition locks are found in the steering column, and this is handled by special service procedures.
