Brake shoes have asbestos that is a known cancer producing substance and therefore cleaning of the brake surface using compressed air and inhalation of any dust is important to avoid. In cleaning, apply brake cleaning fluid, which is available in the market. To align the bearings, elevate and hold the front end with jackstands, inspection of axial motion and easy rotation, parting with the wheel and brake parts but not unscrew the brake line and the spring scale to measure the necessary force to begin the rotation of the wheel with an aim of pulling at 1.3-2.4 lbs. In case some adjustments are needed, loosen or tighten the hub nut respectively and affix using a new cotter pin and change the grease top and wheel. When bearing removal, repacking and installation, do not intermix sodium-based and lithium-based grease and keep the entire procedure clean. Always clean the housing, handle bearings carefully and clean tools and gloves. Do not perform in unclean conditions, use worn tools or wash with gasoline. During disassembly, the wheel, grease cap, cotter pin, hub nut, and flat washer must be removed and the hub must be pulled off the spindle with great care to avoid damaging the outer bearing. Wipe the bearings and hub with a noncombustible solvent, wear check and replace where needed. In changing races, beat out, grease new ones, and in place. Lubricate the hub and bearings with clean grease and install the inside bearing and seal, reinstall the hub to the spindle, the outer bearing, washer and the hub nut. Lastly, adjust the bearing and use a nut cap, cotter pin and grease cap then replace the wheel again.
