Mazda B2000 Oil Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install components for an Oil Pump on Mazda B2000?
    A:
To change the components to fit the different engine sizes, the oil pan and oil pump gear attaching nut should be removed followed by the bolts holding the oil pump to the block and then unscrew the gear on the oil pump and remove the oil pump and the gear. To install, fit the gears to the oil pump in the chain, prime the oil pump and fix it to the cylinder block using bolts. Install the washer-gear-nut with lock tab bent then re-install the oil pan, pour the engine with oil, and test the oil pressure and leakage. In the case of the 2209cc diesel engine, the steps taken are similar except that the oil pump set screw and the oil pipe bolts are removed and these are installed in opposite direction as they were removed. In the case of the 1,998cc engine, it is necessary to disconnect the battery ground, drain the cooling system, strip the distributor, fan shroud, alternator, and belts, then the crankshaft pulley and oil pan. Before unbolting the oil pump, drain the oil and support the engine and then remove the crossmember and idler arm. The steps that are taken during installation include greasing the O-ring, applying RTV silicone sealer, and applying the correct torque requirement to all the parts. In the case of 2,184cc engine, the same is done with care being taken with regard to the safety of the coolant and ensuring correct fitting of Timing Belt. In the case with the 2,555cc engine, you need to disconnect the battery, coolant and take out the Radiator and other parts, taking care to place the car in a stable position. The Timing Chain may be removed or changed with the timing chain replacement being done without necessarily removing the cylinder head and special care should be taken to ensure that the sprockets and chains are synchronized. With the 2,606cc engine, repeat the same steps, but you have to be careful about the safety of the coolant and the correct placement of the oil pump and timing chain cover. Checking of the pump clearances and the rotor are essential in all engine sizes and certain measurements are given with regard to each of the parts to have the parts operating in the right way and safely.
