Removal In order to remove and install the fuel pressure regulator on different types of vehicles, release fuel system pressure. In the case of the MX-3 and the 4-cylinder engine, disconnection of the vacuum hose and the fuel return hose of the pressure regulator followed by the removal of the connecting bolts and the regulator assembly are required. Installation would be a reversal of the removal procedures and a replacement of the O-ring and tightening of the bolts to 69-95 inch lbs. In the case of the 626/MX-6/Probe that has a 2.0L engine, the same initial steps are followed including tightening the bolts to 70-95 inch lbs. In the case of the 2.2L engine, besides releasing fuel pressure, disconnection of the negative battery cable, wiring harness bracket, EGR modulator valve and other hoses, and the pressure regulator, are to be removed. When installation is being done, tighten the bolts to between 69-95 inch lbs., reload hoses and make up all parts. In the case of V6 engines, press the release of the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the air cleaner assembly and fuel hoses, the fuel distributor and injector harnesses. Once the pressure regulator is removed, replace with the new one, screw clamps back in to 61-87 inch lbs, reconnect hoses, and reassemble distributor and air cleaner assembly and lastly, replace the negative battery cable.
