Removal and installation of the heater core in different vehicle models begin with the removal of the negative battery cable and emptying the engine coolant. In the case of MX-3, 1990-94 323 and Protege, it is necessary to remove the instrument panel/dash assembly, the seal plate between heater and blower units and disconnect the heater hose/s to the heater core. Once the heater unit assembly and the heater core are taken out, the heater core should be installed again into the heater case with mounting screws and the heater unit and hoses should be re-assembled. With the 1990-92 626/MX-6, repeat the same steps, but remember to plug the hoses of the heater upon removing. In the case of 1993-98 626/MX-6/Probe, and 1995-98 Protege and Millenia, release of A/C system must occur at certified facility before negative battery cable can be disconnected. Drain and recycle the coolant, disconnect A/C lines and heater hoses and take out the instrument panel. Unscrew electrical connections, remove the cooler and heater units and disassemble halves of the heater case to remove the heater core. The re-installation is in reverse order of installing. Never dispose of coolant carelessly to avoid causing damages to pets and to achieve correct disposal.
