Removal of throttle body (323 and Protege models) is done by starting with the disconnection of the negative battery cable, followed by the removal of the air cleaner intake duct, air cleaner, as well as air cleaner element. Set the air flow meter connector aside and take out the top of the air cleaner assembly then the resonance chamber and the air hose at the throttle body. Unscrew the throttle body hoses and the electrical connectors and unscrew the accelerator cable. Stripe out the throttle body attaching bolts and remove the assembly including the gasket. To install, change throttle body assembly and gasket, tighten bolts with 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25Nm). Install the accelerator cable and repair where needed, attach the air hose, install the resonance chamber and reconnect the airflow meter connector. Lastly, attach the air cleaner base and air cleaner, and the air cleaner duct, and replace the negative battery cable once again. In the case of MX-3 models, the steps are followed in the same order in which the negative battery cable and air intake hose are disconnected, hoses and electrical connectors are tagged and removed, the accelerator cable is disconnected and throttle body attaching bolts are removed. Installation is the opposite of removal and the fixing nuts are tightened to 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25Nm). For 626/MX-6/Probe and Millenia models, mark and remove all the vacuum, coolant, and electrical connections and then remove the throttle body, the attaching nuts and bolts. Disconnect the negative battery cable, take off charge air cooler air duct of 2.3L engines on Millenia where it exists, and disconnect air intake hose. Put off the hoses and electrical connections, cut off the accelerator cable, and take off the throttle body assembly. Installation is the same procedure only to make sure that the mounting nuts are tightened to 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25Nm) and the gasket mating surfaces are clean prior to using a new gasket.
