How to remove and install an antenna assembly on Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Open the trunk and disconnect the antenna cable and make sure continuity on the antenna cable plug end is complete. Coat the base of the antenna with masking tape to cover the paint. In models that have manual antennas, undo the mast by unscrewing and removing it. On each model, the antenna base can be unscrewed and removed with a wide-bladed screwdriver, a coin or a snapring plier. In power antennas, turn on the ignition key, radio switch and allow the antenna to completely extend then simply pull on the mast to remove it and the nylon rack gear. To disassemble the antenna, one has to open the trunk, unfasten the trunk side trim, on the side containing the antenna, disconnect the antenna connector, electrical connector on power antenna models and loosen the bolt or the nut, then remove the assembly. Installation is the opposite of the way of removal. In models with power antenna turn ignition and radio to On and wait till the power antenna has turned off then place the antenna mast into the assembly, making sure that the rack gear fits into the pinion gear and turn the ignition switch to Lock. Lastly, fit and attach tightly the mounting nut.
