Ensure that the parking brake levers have been completely unlocked, and then unscrew the lug nuts of the rear wheels. Lift the car and fit it on jackstands safely and then take off the back wheels. Second, take out the center and exhaust pipe and in case, the driveshaft. On 2005 and earlier models, the cable adjusting nut, the back parking brake cable and return spring should first be removed. Diffuse the rubber grommet of the floor pan and remove the front parking cable. Installation is the opposite of the removing, put a little grease on the cable end which is to be connected with the equalizer and a coating of silicone on the sealing edge of the rubber grommet to make it waterproof. To install the equalizer-to-rear caliper cables, take out the parking cable mounting bolts along the vehicle chassis, disconnect the parking brake cable of the caliper and free the cable ends of caliper equalizer. Installation is once more the opposite of de-installation, where the end of a cable is coated with grease that is light. In 2006 and subsequent models, detach the electrical connector of the parking brake switch, strip the cable threading nut and the carpeting to expose the bolt that holds the parking brake lever in place. Unscrew the remaining two bolts of the parking brake lever, and hoist up the assembly, and release the front parking brake cable. Beneath the car, find the equalizer and do away with the retainer clips that hold the rear parking brake cables. Detach the two rear parking brake cables of the equalizer, the screws that hold the insulator, and pull the front parking brake cable out of the hole in the pan. Removal is the opposite of installation and adjustment of parking brake cable should be performed last. In the case of the rear parking brake cables, unscrew them on the back brakes calipers, follow them all the way up to the bolts and screw off the bolts and the clip and follow those up to the clips that hold the two cables together. Unscrew the attachments on each clip to release the cables and then unattach the rear cables on the equalizer, and may need to unattach the front cable as well to get slack. Last but not least, the installation is an opposite of removal and the parking brake system also needs to be adjusted.
