Many electrical accessories in the vehicle use relays to transmit electrical signals to components, and if a relay is defective, the corresponding component will not operate properly. Relay locations vary by model year, with the circuit opening relay or fuel pump relay, turn signal/flasher relay, and timer/buzzer unit found under the dashboard on the driver's side. In early models, the horn relay is located here, while in later models, the headlight retractor relay occupies this space. The fuel injection main relay and cooling fan relay are situated in the engine compartment fuse/relay block. Additionally, the side marker/tail/license plate/tail illumination relay and headlight relay are on the left side of the engine compartment, with the headlight retractor relay in early models and the horn relay in later models. The rear defogger relay, if equipped, is located in the trunk, and in later models, the air conditioning and condenser fan relays are also found in the engine compartment. If a faulty relay is suspected, it can be removed and tested by a dealer or qualified shop, and defective relays must be replaced as a unit.
