The power brake unit is mounted in the engine compartment of the firewall with the
Brake Master Cylinder on its front. To start with, loosen the clamp and remove the hose of the metal nipple and the vacuum hose of the master brake unit. Removing the cotter pin will release the push rod fork on top of the brake pedal in the car and some pressure to slide the retaining pin should be relieved. Secondly, dismantle the four nuts connecting the power brake unit to the firewall that is in a square shape surrounding the previously disconnected push rod fork. Go back to the engine compartment and push the power brake unit away out of the firewall until the studs clear before removing it. Prior to re-installation, set up the push rod which is inserted into the master cylinder so that a clearance of 0.004 to 0.020 inches (0.1 to 0.5 mm) is obtained by measuring the distance the push rod enters the master cylinder bore. Use a small silicone seal to the firewall into which the power brake unit is inserted so as to have an airtight seal, and then select the unit and push it through the firewall and mount it in place using the four nuts and the lockwashers inside the car. Position the push rod fork in the hole of the brake pedal, slide the retainer pin and split pin and assemble the vacuum hose to the nipple of the unit and screw the hose clamp. Lastly, fit the brake master cylinder, bleed the brake system and ensure that the power brake unit operates properly during the running of the engine.
