Mazda RX-7 Bumper

The Mazda RX-7 Bumper is included in the first place to absorb low-speed impact, which protects the sheet metal, lights, and other important engine parts against costly damage. The first generation of the Mazda sports car came out when the trend in the industry was the plain chrome-plated steel bars that were mounted on brackets, and the style projected outward to give basic protection. The second generation RX-7 took bigger energy bars that protruded from the body, replacing the sleek appearance, due to the late 1970s rules in the United States that required the use of chunkier Armco-style guards in order to comply with the five-mile-per-hour regulations. Later models combined the protection with the bodywork and applied a plastic skin over an underlying reinforcement beam stuffed with foam or honeycomb to absorb the impact of crashes, allowing the coupe to maintain its sleek lines without compromising its safety. The objective remained the same in all years; though construction changed from exposed steel to integrated composite, the primary distinction was the visibility of the safety structure and the extent of the impact that could be borne before it began to transfer the load onto the expensive panels. Since a broken guard may reveal mechanical parts, installing a new part keeps the Mazda looking good and safe, and the factory-matched mounts make sure that the new Bumper fits in the same place the factory wanted it to fit. Owners who have picked an OE-grade Bumper also regain the exact gap fit that is factory fresh Mazda.

Mazda RX-7 Bumper Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to disconnect and remove the battery, coolant recovery tank, and shock absorber while preparing to install a new bumper on Mazda RX-7?
    A:
Disassemble the two battery wires, and lift the battery out of the mounting plate, without damaging the front fender, and place the battery off in a safe location. To access it, take out a coolant recovery tank on the right side of the engine compartment which is secured by an inbuilt clip on the right side of the radiator support. Disconnect the wire connectors with the front turn signal lights and push the wires through the hole in the front body panel to a point in front of the radiator. Using the access hole under the hood hinge, loosen the two nuts of the shock absorber end of the piston rod. Lift the front part of the vehicle to access more to the other parts that remain under the car and hold it down with jack stands. Unscrew the five screws attaching the front radiator grille to the body and pop all wires attached in this area out of their connection connectors. Draw the scribe or a pen to sketch the bracket position on the frame and then remove the two bolts that connect the bumper shock absorber bracket on the frame and hold the bumper. The four bracket bolts are detached, and the bumper, shock absorber bracket, and shock absorber are able to be detached out of the car. Adjust the length of the shock absorber spring, this must be a total of about 2.50 in (64 mm) in length length, and in case it is not of special length replace the shock absorber with a new one. The shock horser is simply detachable on the bumper by removing the bolts that connect it. Installation process After assembling the shock absorber and bracket to the bumper, install the four attaching bolts but loosely by making sure the bracket aligns to frame using the marks made to the identification upon disassembly and furthermore, ensure that the front bolts are installed first, then the rearward bolts afterwards. Install the turn signal light wires through the body panel and the inside of the engine compartment and install the rest of the parts in the same order of removal.
