The center console panel consists of a single piece and stretches to the heater control unit up to the shifter boot and has to remove in order to service the heater controls, radio, switches or cigarette lighter. Start by unplugging the negative battery cable to the battery, and unscrew the gearshift lever knob of an automatic transmission. Take out the cigarette lighter and the two screws to the swifter boot panel situated below the switches and cigarette lighter receptable. Removal of these screws would help to lift the panel a bit and pry it out on the back side which has spring clips to hold it. Then take off the two screws connecting the center panel set plate over the heater control and the set plate. Adjust the heater control lever to the center, the heater control knobs and the heater fan switch knob are removed by removing the small set screws that are located beneath the knob, simply bending them off the shaft. In the event of the presence of a radio, remove the control knobs, attaching nuts, and decorative bezel of the radio control shafts. Unscrew the middle panel and take out the light bulb and cables connected to the switches and cigarette lighter and push the switches through the front of the panel to come out. In reinstalling, install the wiring connectors to the fullest extent and also the panel must be centered on the control shafts and around the heater, owing care not to over tight the attaching screws to prevent panel damage.
