The run-out of the Drive Shaft is checked by placing the shaft in V-blocks and attaching a dial indicator so that its point just touches the shaft surface; the shaft is then slowly turned and the run-out duly recorded on the dial indicator, and if it exceeds the limit, the entire Drive Shaft should be replaced. Additionally, the Drive Shaft can be checked for dynamic unbalance using special machinery that spins the shaft at varying rpm; if it does not meet these specifications, the Drive Shaft should be properly balanced or replaced as an assembly.

Reduce the bottom of the shaft and slide it backwards until the transmission is out of the shaft, then pull the shaft assembly out underneath the car. To install, reverse the process, making sure that the alignment marks on the two surfaces are aligned, and then tighten the four bolts.
